Honeycomb shades and a more comfortable home
How honeycomb (cellular) shades trap air to keep rooms warmer in winter and cooler in summer, plus light-filtering and blackout options.

Honeycomb shades, also called cellular shades, are made of fabric folded into hexagon-shaped cells. Seen from the side they look like a honeycomb, which gives them their name.
Why the cells matter
Each cell holds a pocket of air between the window and the room. That air acts as a layer of insulation, so less heat escapes through the glass in winter and less heat comes in during summer. Double-cell shades add a second layer for more insulation.
Light options
Honeycomb fabrics come in light-filtering and blackout versions. Light-filtering cells give an even, soft glow. Blackout cells use a lining inside each cell.
Good places for honeycomb
- Bedrooms that feel cold near the window in winter.
- South- and west-facing rooms that heat up in the afternoon.
- Basements and older windows with more drafts.
Ask us to bring honeycomb samples to your visit so you can compare them with zebra and roller options.
