Matter and Thread in plain words
Matter is a common language that Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and SmartThings all understand, so one set of shades can appear in more than one app. Thread is the low-power wireless network many Matter devices use. It runs inside your home, so shades respond quickly and keep working when your internet is down.
Whole-home systems like Control4, Crestron and Savant
If your home runs on a whole-home automation system such as Control4, Crestron or Savant, we integrate your motorized shades and curtains with it. They then sit alongside your lighting, audio and climate, so one keypad, touch screen or scene can control everything at once.
What you need
Thread needs a border router, a device many homes already have, such as a HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, Nest Hub (2nd gen) or Echo (4th gen).
